American Express Credit Cards Tips & Information

30 November 1999

The credit card has changed the shape of shopping in today’s world. Since I cancelled my American Express credit card there’s a huge range of goods and services I haven’t been able to access. Without that credit card, I was unable to join the local gym, to order t-shirts off of the Internet, to reserve a plane ticket online - and that is just a few of the basics. I remember when using cash was the preferred way to buy things.

It is a global phenomenon buying products or services with your American Express credit card without even caring whether or not we can afford them or even need them. Although American Express credit cards are a really convenient way to make a purchase - get it now and worry about it tomorrow - it does come at a heavy cost. In some places, credit card debt is spiraling out of control. I am not joking when I say that credit card borrowing is probably the biggest problem facing Americans today.

That is one of the main reasons why I had to cancel my American Express credit card in the first place. I was getting out of control with my spending because it was just so easy handing over the card. Charging everything to my card was stupid because before too long the debts just spiraled out of control. The debt became too great for me to pay and I didn’t know what to do.

To get my debt back into a position where I could pay for it I resorted to using a debt refinancing company. It’s not something I ever want to repeat. Now, I have gotten my debt paid off and cancelled my American Express credit card. Many people would think me unfair about blaming a credit card but they need to understand something about people first.

If you pay for goods or services in cash, you actually see that money coming out of your pocket. But like I said before, a credit card made everything way too easy. I could spend money like water, and before I knew it, it was all gone. So now there is no American Express credit card problem for me to worry about.
